fresh peas

June 22, 2011 by Erin 3 Comments

There were an enormous amount of peas in our CSA box last week. So, I put the kids to work. ๐Ÿ™‚

Luckily, they thought shelling peas was great fun!
I made a very tasty and very simple fresh pea side dish with them.
I poured the freshly shelled peas into boiling water and left them there for about one minute. Just to take the rawness out. I don’t like mushy peas. Then I drained them and put a pat (or three) of butter (the most wonderful fresh Amish butter in the world – from our local food co-op. To my local friends….if you haven’t bought butter from Paula’s – DO IT NOW!)
I also put a pinch of sea salt and lemon zest on them. Done and DELICIOUS! ๐Ÿ™‚
I love the way they looked all bunched up and cozy in their pods.

“Sam – don’t eat them yet.”
“Sam – only one more pea then peel the rest.”
“SAM!”
(he couldn’t resist the raw pea, I think he ate more than he put in the bowl!)
Ah-ha, this is why he couldn’t resist.
Look at that face.
He was watching her so intently and he has to do everything she does.
Silly bean.
Stinker!

They were tasty….raw and cooked! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not much of a pea person. Are fresh peas better than canned or frozen? Your kiddos are super cute and the peas in their little pods are too cute!

I LOVE peas, and we rarely have them here because my husband hates them. How fun to see the kids enjoying them! ๐Ÿ™‚
