stir it up

August 6, 2010 by Erin Leave a Comment

I bought a neat little cookie making kit a while ago – it was on sale at Toys R Us, of all places. (I absolutely hate that store – but I needed to find bubble machine – because I HATE blowing bubbles more than I hate that store! 🙂 I know it’s a really strange thing to hate – but I do. Kids LOVE them so much….. but they give up…… because they can’t actually blow them just right for more than a few seconds …….and so they hand the dreaded bubbles to me…… and then they keep wanting more and more bubbles…….jumping up and down gleefully screaming MORE….. and you get all slimy and sticky from the drips and lightheaded from the blowing…..and then the bubbles stop working and everyone cries…….anyway…..Had to get a bubble machine! AHHH – just hate ’em.

So, I brought out the kit this morning and Lucie and I made some cookies. It was the neatest kit ever. It is called Zebra Mix and it comes with this cool map that tells you exactly what to do. It has pictures of all the things you need before you start. Lucie had fun gathering all the necessary equipment and then checking the chart. It would be even cooler for slightly older kids – but Lucie loved it. It has fun little facts all over it and you have to follow the numbers to know what to do next. One of the steps said “eat three chocolate chips” – how cute is that?! Plus the box boasts 75 percent organic ingredients. Nice. I am a terrible baker – so I really love kits. Cooking is so much more fun than baking – measuring exactly and I do not get along. I did leave the cookies in a minute too long – so they are slightly dark (see why I hate baking) but they are still surprisingly soft inside. They are really tasty – I am eating one two three right now.

Plus clean up is super easy – because you just roll up the map and throw it away. The map has a space in the middle that says “place mixing bowl here”. And there’s also little circle where you place your ball of dough to make sure it’s the right size. They make cupcake and brownie mixes too. I’ve also seen them at Borders. Another strange place to sell baking kits, but, whatever – they are really fun! If you see one reasonable priced – you should pick it up!

If it looks like Sam is getting ready to hit Lucie – um – that’s because he is. It’s his newest “trick”. Of course it makes her totally melt down and cry. Fun.

His other new strange obsession is putting anything he has in his hands – on top of his head.

Happy siblings for the time being.
