I saw this cute frame idea on The Mother Huddle yesterday, and decided we had to make one for my husband. Kevin LOVES pistachios – and he is really hard to buy for – plus who doesn’t love an adorable, cheesy picture of their sweet family?! ๐ It was SOOO easy.
Step one….shell some pistachios (eating the nuts and saving the shells) This was mostly done by me, although the bird did quite a few on her own. She was very proud each time she successfully opened one. The prize was eating the ones you opened.
Step two….squeeze some paint into a zip lock baggie. We chose 3 colors and used acrylic paint we had on hand.
Step three…Add the shells and squish the bags around until the shells seem coated. The bean even got in on this one!
Step four.…pour out the painted shells and separate them a bit, let dry.
Step five….hot glue onto a frame. (I did this part – and have burns to prove it) be careful. ๐
Step six….write or print “We’re nuts about Daddy” and tape it to a nice picture. The blog where I found this didn’t do this part – but I feel like it makes the frame make more sense. Like – why are there nut shells glued onto this frame?
Step seven.…wrap up with a new bag of pistachios – I was going to put the pistachios in a nice jar and class it up a bit – but ran out of time.
Also, if I had some clear spray stuff to make it shiny – I might have sprayed the dry, painted shells before gluing them onto the frame – but I didn’t have any. So, we have matte nuts. I think it turned out cute.
And congrats to Paperwings for winning the Father’s Day pen!! I will send that out ASAP. Thanks to everyone who entered. I will be doing another giveaway in a few weeks. Let me know if you would still like a pen – I am thinking about putting some in my (sad empty) etsy shop.

Super cute frame idea. Even the Bean was able to help paint the nuts. Looks like everyone was having lots of fun.
