Kevin’s parents came into town for a visit this weekend. It was gorgeous outside so we went to the zoo. The kids loved it. The bean, who is usually a pretty quite kid, squealed with delight at every new animal. He would jump and flail around and squeak. And then cry in anger when we would leave to walk to the next exhibit. I am guessing he liked the zoo. The turkeys were clearly his favorite – which is kind of funny. I loved the elephants. It seemed like most of the animals were really close this time. It was cool. A really fun weekend and good visit.
Loved the meerkats – they are so cute!
Do you see those two sets of glowing eyes?! Creepy!
Same face!
Tired out! Holding the bottle while drinking and sleeping.
The other reason it has been a zoo around here…….I was suddenly jolted awake Thursday night at around 10:45 (yeah – we go to bed early!) by the sound of beeping. The electricity had gone off in the whole house and so the baby monitor was beeping. Humm. I woke Kevin up to investigate. He used his cell phone as a flashlight and wandered around the house deciding that yes, the electricity was indeed off. Looking out the window, our neighbors seemed to have some lights on here and there, so it looked like it was just us. We went back to bed, deciding that we would figure it out tomorrow. Then we smelled it. Laying upstairs in the bed, we could smell the distinct odor of electrical fire and burning plastic. Awesome. So back down we went, to the basement and the electrical box. As far as we could tell with just the beam of our flashlight, there had been a fire in the electrical box, but it seemed to be out. The whole basement was full of smoke… so our flashlight was just cutting a light saber like beam through it all. Not really allowing us to see much. I called dad, of course. He told K. to check in the ceiling tiles to make sure it hadn’t spread. All appeared to be OK. We went back to bed, what else could we do. In the morning my dad and our electrician came to the rescue before 7:00! Since K. leaves for work at 6:00, it was just me and the kids FREEZING. Luckily, we had two weeks (TWO WEEKS) left on our home warranty and this was covered. Thank you God! Of course we still had the deductible, but still. So, some electricians came and fixed it. They were here the entire day – it was a really long job. Such a miracle. They restored the electricity and heat about a half hour or so before Kevin’s family came in. So much for me cleaning the house. Can’t vacuum with no electricity. Darn. The electricians told me it could have very easily burned the house down and that we were lucky. Blessed. Praise God!
