The fam went to a fun hockey party last night at my parents house. It was the big Canada vs. The U.S.A. for the gold! eeewww. I’m a sucker for a theme party!! How exciting. I basically took it as an opportunity to make maple leaf inspired shirts and snacks. Yes, I do realize that I am an American, and I actually do have a sense of country pride …. and I could have followed my husband’s lead and rooted for the home team……But…..I can do red, white and blue crafts and treats for Forth of July! There are not many times to take on the Maple Leaf. (Unless you count Canada day – which really – who does! heehee. Unless you are Canadian (or were) like my Mom, Aunt and that whole side of the fam.) In addition, I like to be contrary – so we rooted for the Canucks…..and it paid off since they won! Also, I didn’t know about the party until after church, so I had less than 3 hours and only the things in my house to work with!
So, I found some old red shirts and a maple leaf cookie cutter and some white fabric paint. Whalaa. I think they would have turned out better if I would have taken more than 5 minutes on them. Oh well. It got the point across.I also made a cheesecake and placed sliced strawberries in the shape of the maple leaf.
And for the kiddos, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – with a giant one (baked in the cookie cutter.)
A particularly intense moment or two.
Over time – How exciting! (you know I was just there for the theme party – right?)
Fun Canadian beverages…..enjoyed by all.
(one of these things doesn’t belong)
It was good times! Mom and Aunt Reta went a little crazy. Scared the babies. Fun for all.
crazy Canadians!!
You did good for such short notice! I stand here impressed by your brilliance.
